There’s a Full Moon /Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on Tuesday
We’re entering into Spooky Season at last. I’m still temporarily hobbled, and Autumn (in the Northern Hemisphere) starts on Sunday, September 22.
The placement of this astrology makes it an excellent time to look at your shadow and ask where you’re deceiving yourself. Speaking strictly for myself, I’ve done a whole lot of self-deception in the past.
For me, a huge part of getting well has been looking at the places where I was untruthful with myself. I encourage you to utilize this full moon to consider those places in your own life.
Livin la vida Leah!
Here are the primary things occupying my time and energy at the moment.
My Right Leg!
If you engage with me and work at all, you may know that I am temporarily grounded by the universe. By that I mean I broke my knee on July 7th and have been in my basement lair recovering since.
I say I “broke my knee,” but to be more specific, I broke my right tibial plateau by slamming it hard against the earth, with the enthusiastic assistance of gravity. I was attempting to hang a hummingbird feeder from a tree in our front yard as a surprise for my mom (we bought a home together during the height of the pandemic). Suffice it to say that she was surprised. I fell from quite a height and, well, here we are.
I had surgery of July 11th, and on Wednesday, just two days from now, I’ll be returning to the surgeon for XRays and to get my prognosis. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to start putting weight on my right foot, aka starting to walk, very soon.
It’s been ten weeks of being an invalid, and I’ve had lots of time to reflect (maybe that was the universe’s point?).
First, I’m constantly struck by how I’ve not been cognizant, how no one really could be, of how difficult it is to move through the world with a mobility limitation. Mad respect to people who deal with this on a permanent basis because WOW. This is hard.
Hard as it’s been for me, it’s been almost as hard for my mom, who has been an absolute champ in dealing with this and with me.
Besides the leg thing, I had a horrific reaction to medication early on that made me so ill I had to go to the emergency room. Detoxing from that took several grueling days.
For ten weeks, my poor mom has had to deal with a 51-year-old toddler, complete with crawling across the floor and tantrums.
Words can’t express my gratitude to her.
The Second Season of My Podcast, Empower Your Magical Self!
Last year, around this time, the first season came out, and I am truly, ridiculously proud of the 13 episodes it included.
But I’ll let you in on a little secret. Maybe it’s not actually so secret, though.
I had no idea what I was doing. I edited the entire season on my iPhone.
I’m currently in the process of recording season 2, and I’m beginning to figure out what I’m doing.
Truthfully, I created the podcast as a way to meet some of my heroes - spiritual writers, artists, and creators of all stripes who inspire me with their work. People who help me empower my magical self.
That definition fits all my guests from both seasons, and I’m excited about the second season, which will begin airing weekly on October 2.
Here are the people I’ve interviewed thus far for my upcoming season:
Wolfwomxn Energy is the dynamic, hysterically funny internet presence loved by her 175,000 devoted fans on Instagram. She describes herself as “Artist
🔮 Divinity Conjurer, Sarcasm Enthusiast, VVitch, Dendrophile, Photog, Light Worker, Spiritual Supporter🌿” and we had a marvelous conversation about magic and helping oneself out of dark times.
Witchy Addams is a young healer and psychic who I suspect you’ll be hearing more from soon as her star continues to rise. The authenticity of her videos on her various social media platforms drew me in, and I’m clearly not alone as her Facebook followers are quite verbose in their admiration.
On a personal note, I got a reading from her and was overwhelmed by it.
The thing about readings, for me anyway, is that I’m not looking for someone to wow me with what they can prove to me with superficial knowledge (“I know your mom’s name is Sheryl and you love dogs”) or blow smoke up my arse (“I see great things in your future”), I’m looking for someone who can tune into the energy that is me and the sphere of life around me and give me some navigation tips. With a picture of the cards that she pulled, and about 30 minutes of recorded voice notes about what it all means and how I can best act on it all, this was a fantastic reading and I highly recommend getting her insight if you’re looking for a reading.
Monita is a magical musical being, and her spiritual trap music fits well into my Soul-Lit. She’s a German native, but she spoke with me from China. Why is she in China? Oh, her lease in London ran out so she decided to go to KUNG-FU CAMP IN CHINA. As one does.
Sarah Potter (professional witch and all-around earth-angel) and I discussed color magic and her personal practice, including why she maintains several altars in her home. We also discuss the origin of my obsession with her, and how I seem to have misremembered it.
Kelly-Ann Maddox, badass witch from the UK and author of the brilliant book Rebel Witch.
Her Instagram bio says “🌗Shadow work💖Self-love🧘♀️Spiritual counsellor🎴 Cardslinger”. She joined me from her home in the UK to talk about work, and about spiritual practices for dark times.
Bob Peck is a young author with whom I feel tremendous kinship. He spoke to me from his home in Austin, Texas, which happens to be my hometown. Besides that, we share a lot of spiritual connections, including our shared reverence for Ram Dass, the author of Be Here Now.
Original Sin Is A Lie & More From The Spiritual Buffet Line
Bob and I talked about mysticism and his book, Original Sin is a Lie.
Amanda Yates Garcia, aka the Oracle of Los Angeles, is one of the reasons I started my podcast.
Mystery Cult with Amanda Yates Garcia
I’m such a fan of hers, called Between the Worlds (which is where I was introduced to Sarah Potter) that I often commented on her platforms that I’d like for her to interview this or that person just so I could hear them talk to one another. Eventually, I created Empower Your Magical Self, hoping to convince her to come on as a guest. It’s happening this season!
Her book, Initiated is a brilliant read.
I’ve learned so much from Amanda over the years. For instance, she and I discussed at length the idea of the egregore (which I learned about in her book), and about the specific egregore of the United States. You’ll have to tune in to learn about that.
My Autumn Crown!
I’ve written volumes about my habit of living by the Wheel of the Year rather than the calendar year, and this week I'm creating my autumn crown for 2024.
And that’s my month at a glance!
If you’d like to follow me on my various social platforms, I’d like to have you.
